Alexander Kowalski — Live at Matter Of Fact Vinyl

Live at Matter Of Fact Vinyl

I’m happy to share a very special live set with you.

Matter Of Fact and Andre Kronert are behind the manufacturing and distribution of my vinyl releases. For some time now, they have been inviting vinyl DJs to their pressing plant to record sets surrounded by the machines and records they work with every day.

When they asked me if I wanted to be the first artist to perform a live set there, I immediately knew I wanted to do something special.

So I went back to the roots.

I prepared a setup very similar to the way I used to perform many years ago: a Roland TR-909 for drums, Maschine+ taking the role of the Akai MPC 2000 XL I used back then, a Mackie mixer as the central control point, plus an Alesis Quadraverb and Access Virus B for effects and filtering.

Musically, I started with tracks from Echoes and then moved through some of my favourite tracks from recent years alongside current productions.

I hope you enjoy the set as much as I enjoyed preparing and playing it.

Sinee Remixes artwork

Sinee Remixes

The story behind the Sinee Remixes started with a production masterclass I did for Sinee, where I created a new track completely from scratch, taking the whole process from the first idea to the finished production.

Afterwards, we opened up the track for a remix contest – and I was genuinely surprised by how many people took part and by the quality of the submissions.

Going through all the remixes wasn’t easy, but in the end I picked my three favourites by SMBR, Sven Köhne and GZI to become part of the vinyl release.

There was also one more remix by Rozengracht that I liked so much that I simply didn’t want to leave it out, so I decided to include it as an additional digital bonus track.

What started as a track made during a masterclass has now turned into a full release, bringing together four very different interpretations of the original.

Alexander Kowalski on SINEE Cast #10: Live Techno Since 1997

Alexander Kowalski joins SINEE Cast #10 for an in-depth conversation about almost three decades of performing techno live.

The interview looks back at the evolution of his setup from the early MPC 2000 days to today’s Ableton-based workflow, and how his approach to live performance, production and sound has changed since his first live shows in 1997.

Other topics include the 25th anniversary remaster of Echoes, his vinyl-first approach with Cycles Music, the differences between producing for the studio and performing on stage, and his personal workflow for mixing and mastering his own music.

A detailed conversation about hardware, software, changing technology and maintaining a personal sound and working method over many years.

Alexander Kowalski — Live 2 EP artwork

Live 2 EP

When Alexander Kowalski released Live on Kanzleramt in early 2000, it marked the first release under his own name and the beginning of a sound that would soon become distinctly his own. Created specifically for his live sets, the tracks captured the raw energy, directness and physical presence of that moment, laying the foundation for Kowalski’s unmistakable approach to techno.

More than two decades later, Live 2 opens the first chapter of Cycles Music, Alexander’s new label. The release follows the same essential impulse: music shaped through performance, tested in real spaces and built to carry the intensity of the live experience.

Featuring two tracks that have been part of Kowalski’s live sets for years, Live 2 brings together material that has already proved its force on dancefloors and festival stages around the world. Direct, driving and deeply atmospheric, the tracks reflect the same independent spirit that has defined his work from the beginning, while placing it firmly in the present.

As the first release on Cycles Music, Live 2 is both a statement of intent and a continuation. It connects past and future without falling into nostalgia, bringing a fragment of Kowalski’s live history into a new context. Raw in energy, precise in form and unmistakably his own, Live 2 sets the tone for a label built on continuity, transformation and forward motion.
